After three days of intense action and seamless phygital gameplay, the group stage of Phygital Contenders: Abu Dhabi – Football has ended. Some of the leading phygital football clubs clashed in a format that tested physical endurance and digital mastery, and the results didn’t disappoint.
With electrifying performances and tactical brilliance on display, the group stage reaffirmed why phygital football is the future of this beautiful game. Clubs from across the globe demonstrated how deeply physical talent and digital strategy now intersect on a single stage.
Here are the clubs who’ve proved worthy of qualifying to the knockout stages:
- Mexico Quetzales – Armadillos FC delivered a dominant performance across both matches, including a standout win over OAA Esports and a confident showing against Gentle Neighbours, securing a place in the knockout stage.
- Greni Smith rebounded from an early challenge with a strong second match against PGM Covic, doing enough to qualify.
- FC WhiteBird advanced unbeaten, with back-to-back victories over La Crema and CEFL Phygital confirming their top position in the group.
- Zero Tenacity edged past Orlando Pirates Fives and ALKHDOUR FC in tightly contested matches that proved just enough to see them through.
- IndexG showed consistency with two solid performances, earning key points against Navai and Interstellars – Team Joga to qualify.
- Libertadores PT secured two match wins against Street Ball and Team Santa doing just enough to progress.
- CM JARDIM sealed their place with a high-scoring win over PGM Covic, backed by another win against Greni Smith that kept them on top of their group.
- KMF Titograd advanced after winning a critical head-to-head tiebreaker, following one win and one loss in the group.
The top eight clubs will now move into the knockout rounds, where every goal, flick shot, and controller input will carry monumental weight.
As we head into the next phase, the path to the Games of the Future 2025 narrows. Only the strongest phygital footballers will advance to the GOTF2025 in December and no-one is getting carried away about the task in front of them:
“Phygital sport is about mental strength, never losing focus and hope. If you believe in yourself, you can do anything. We showed that on the pitch and made sure we would get the win no matter what,” said Roksic Marko, goalkeeper and captain, Zero Tenacity.
“It’s in our DNA to remain calm and focused. We’ve got the chemistry to go all the way,” said Nikalayevich Mikita, captain and player, FC Whitebird.
